Help! I need some constructive criticism on this. So I shot these in the studio with a spoon and corn syrup...our teacher refrained to tell us that a shutter speed over 1/250 makes the picture totally not work, I figured that out the hard way.

First, haha, I'm sorry you learned the hard way about sync speed, at least it wasn't film :/

I like the color of the purple a lot, bummer it's light on the line down, but oh well, still a cool idea.

most of the strobes in our studios will freeze motion pretty well (lower the power, more freezing that happens. aka, 2 lights at 1/2 the power will create more of a freeze, ask me or robert about it). I wouldn't be afraid to play with various liquids that are not as thick. Action is exciting and corn syrup doesn't splash or bash around a lot. It will be hard to avoid cliche` shots, but still a great exercise.

have fun with these! and it's a really great start

Geez - just lost the whole post!! grrr - travel is so annoying!!
Synopsis -
Like Lighting - Try - fill card to under spoon or black "fill" to add more drama to stream of syrup. Experiment and see what changes and works best.

Motivation and concept
What are/were you trying to achieve?
What kind of story did you want to tell?

My brain adds info to the shot - text at the bottom like an ad, or a messy table where it overflowed. A kid with an open mouth, trying to catch the overflow or a puppy lapping up the overflow....or ...

Would like to see more use of the frame. Move in closer - try a horizontal or closer vertical. Basically, tweak composition a little.

Show us what you did next?

We had to make a triptych for the assignment and i started off with an image with the syrup dripping off the bottom of the spoon, the middle image has syrup dripping into the spoon and dripping off the bottom and it ends with an image with just syrup dripping into the spoon. I'll get the final image up soon!
