I've downloaded LR 3 beta on my home computer and am enjoying some of the new features on it. However, you cant use lightroom 2 catalogues in it and I've noticed there's quite a difference in color going from one to the other for some reason (among other things). Just a little warning :)
Not to be a total geek, but the color difference is because the rendering engine in LR3 is completely different than that of LR2. There's an option to use the rendering engine from LR2 instead if you want to do that.
Okay, im done being a geek.
Robert 's geekness is accurate:)
BUT - once you open a catalog in LR3 - you can't open it in 2.
Be very careful.....
Work with copies of your catalog.
Be sure to read thru what is new before you open your cats in LR3.
Greg and I have been working with LR 3 for many months and I can tell you that the public build is pretty stable. They also just released a new build yesterday.
read the "READMEs" files so you know what you are getting in to. The upgrades are very cool - but it will change your workflow and unless you are very careful (as I note above) you can create frustration working between home and school.
